A Ghaziabad court on Monday held dentist couple, Rajesh and Nupur Talwar guilty of murdering their 14-year-old daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj.
The dentist parents were convicted of murder and destruction of evidence among other offences, under sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code.
The court will pronounce the quantum of punishment for the Talwar couple on Tuesday.
Following the verdict, the Talwars will be taken into custody.
Rajesh and Nupur Talwar issued a statement soon after the verdict. "We are deeply disappointed, hurt and anguished at being convicted for a crime we have not committed. We refuse to feel defeated and will continue to fight for justice," it said.
"All the lawyers had approached the court to know how long they will have to wait for the order. The court said the order will be announced post-lunch -- at 2 pm," Naresh Yadav, counsel for Krishna, who was one of the suspects in the case, said.
Additional Sessions Judge Shyam Lal is expected to announce the verdict before the lunch break, in a case where Aarushi's parents — Rajesh and Nupur Talwar — are standing trial on charges of murder and destruction of evidence.
Security has been beefed up outside the special CBI court premises. "Three DSPs, three station house officers, 90 constables and one platoon of PAC have been deployed outside the court," SP (City), Ghaziabad, Muniraj said.
Sources close to the Talwar family said while the couple were "extremely nervous", they have stayed "calm and believe that they will not be held guilty". "All scenarios have been prepared for, with lawyers prepared for an adverse judgment, and an immediate appeal to the High Court if there is a conviction," sources said.
